President Joe Biden's disapproval rating has soared to its highest point ever, while former president Donald Trump would beat him in a head-to-head matchup, according to two polls released Sunday.
An NBC poll found that 56 percent of registered voters disapprove of Biden's job performance—the highest percentage of his presidency—with Biden's approval numbers underwater among young voters, women, Latinos, and independents. The poll also found that Trump and Biden are tied in a matchup for the presidency.
An ABC/Washington Post poll had even more worrying news for the president. While another 56 percent of respondents said they disapprove of Biden's job performance, this poll found that Trump would beat Biden by a remarkable 9 points in a 2024 matchup. Hispanics support Trump over Biden by 6 points, the poll found, with young voters, men, and non-Hispanic Catholics also preferring Trump.
The left-leaning Post attempted to criticize its own poll by saying that Trump's lead suggests the poll "is probably an outlier." Trump leads Biden by 1.6 points in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
Respondents in both polls sounded similar criticisms of the president.
Nearly 60 percent disapprove of Biden's handling of the economy, according to the NBC poll, and over 50 percent disapprove of Biden's foreign policy. About 6 in 10 Democrats say they want Biden to face a primary challenger.
The ABC/Post poll found an even higher number, 64 percent, who said they disapprove of Biden's economic policies. Sixty-two percent disapproved of Biden's handling of the border crisis, while over 6 in 10 Democrats and Democratic-leading independents want their party to pick someone other than Biden, that poll found.
Democrats' most likely alternative to Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, is equally unpopular, the polls found. Fifty-one percent of respondents personally disapprove of Harris, according to the NBC poll, while only 8 percent of Democrats prefer Harris over Biden as the Democratic Party's candidate, according to the ABC poll.
The NBC poll also had some bad news for Biden on his multiple scandals. A staggering 74 percent of voters are concerned that the president lacks "the necessary mental and physical health to be president for a second term," while 60 percent have concerns about "Biden's possible awareness or involvement in the business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden."
