Trump: After Health Care, Tax Reform Will Be 'So Easy,' 'H&R Block Won't Be Happy'

July 13, 2017

President Donald Trump said in an interview airing Thursday that passing tax reform is "going to be so easy" if health care reform gets done, adding that "H&R Block won't be happy" with a simplified tax code.

Trump discussed his legislative agenda in a wide-ranging interview with CBN's Pat Robertson. Republicans are struggling to find the votes necessary to pass the Obamacare repeal that Trump and them have campaigned on for nearly a decade, after which they hope to pass aggressive tax reform.

"I think after health care, taxes are going to be so easy," Trump said. "Health care is very hard."

Trump, using his hands, said it was a "tiny, little road" to find a health care bill that enough Republicans could get behind to pass.

"We're talking about massive tax cuts, the biggest tax cut in the history of our country," he said. "We're going to get people back again. We're going to bring back $4 trillion from overseas, money that can come back into this country because of our tax code."

Trump also told Robertson that he would be "very angry" if Republicans in Congress failed to get a repeal of Obamacare on his desk to sign.

The Trump administration has touted its tax plan as the largest tax reform in the nation's history, including a significant lowering of the corporate tax rate, and one that would focus on simplicity and achieving sustained, three-percent economic growth.

"Would you settle for the tax cut without reforming the whole tax code?" Robertson asked.

"Well, I think we can do them simultaneously," Trump said. "The code is too complicated. H&R Block won't be happy. People go out, they spent a lot of their money on getting other people to do their taxes."

"I'm one of them," Robertson said.

"I know, you understand, and it's unnecessary," Trump said. "Simplification is very important. Reform is very important, and the biggest thing to me is tax cut. We are going for very large tax cuts for businesses and for the middle class. Tremendous tax cuts."
