Washington Post congressional reporter Erica Werner tweeted on Tuesday that a "Benghazi bomb-thrower" and a "torture overseer" will be the new secretary of state and CIA director if they are confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

President Donald Trump announced on Twitter Tuesday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would be replaced by CIA Director Mike Pompeo, and Pompeo in turn would be replaced by CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel.

"A Benghzai bomb-thrower will be SecState and a torture overseer will be CIA director -- IF CONFIRMED BY THE SENATE," Werner tweeted.

Werner appeared to refer to Pompeo's time as a congressman, where he served on the House Select Committee on Benghazi and was a vocal critic of how former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton handled the 2012 terrorist attack.

Werner's comment about Haspel being a "torture overseer" refers to her time in the CIA's former covert program where suspected terrorists were interrogated. The methods of interrogation included waterboarding.

Before joining the Washington Post, Werner wrote for the Associated Press.
