What happened: In a blow to President Joe Biden's reelection prospects, Vice President Kamala Harris confidently predicted the Democratic ticket would prevail in 2024.
• "We're gonna win," Harris told Bill Whitaker of CBS News. "Let me just tell you that. We're gonna win."
Why it matters: If history is any indication, this is bad news for Biden. During the Democratic primary in 2020, Harris was similarly confident that she would win the party's nomination for president.
• "I'm gonna win, and I fully intend to win," Harris told CNN in May 2019. She went on to suggest that Biden "would be a great" vice presidential nominee.
• Harris's primary campaign was a catastrophic failure that revealed her to be an astonishingly weak politician incapable of forming a connection with average Americans.
• After being widely lauded as a formidable contender in the mainstream media, and describing herself as a "top-tier" candidate, Harris dropped out of the race in December 2019 before any Democrats had the opportunity to vote for someone else.
Bottom line: Just having Harris on the ticket is bad news for Democrats. Due to Biden's advanced age and rapidly deteriorating cognitive health, Harris is "essentially running for president" in 2024, according to CNN contributor Van Jones. No one, including her traumatized former staffers, actually wants her to be president. Good luck!
