MSNBC ‘Analyst’ Raising Money For Democrats

‘One of the most important things you can do is to support the DSCC’

March 26, 2012

MSNBC political analyst and occasional guest host Karen Finney is fundraising for the Democratic Party.

In an email sent Monday from the official account of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), Finney urged supporters to "join" her in giving money to Democrats in order to defeat "the Republican agenda," which includes: "trying to take away basic health care for women, Medicare as we know it from our seniors and even food aid away from our kids!"

"Because they know they can't win on their failed ideas, the GOP is trying to use dirty tactics—like making it harder for people to vote in numerous states across the country," Finney writes in the email. "They've targeted older people, younger people and people of color—directly attacking our democracy and the right of every American to have their say in the election. We are not going to let them get away with it."

In the email, Finney urges prospective donors to help the DSCC meet its goal of raising $690,000 over the next six days before the approaching end-of-quarter deadline set by the Federal Election Commission. Giving money to the DSCC, she writes, is "one of the most important things you can do."

"Will you please join me in supporting the DSCC with a gift of $5 or $10?" Finney writes. "With the stakes this high, we can’t afford to wait for the full Karl Rove effect. Let’s hit this FEC goal, defend President Obama and our Democratic Senate, and stop the Republican assault on our American values."

Finney frequently appears as a "political analyst" on a number of the MSNBC's programs, and has recently been guest-hosting in place of Martin Bashir on "Martin Bashir Live."

Prior to joining MSNBC, Finney was deputy press secretary to then-first lady Hillary Clinton, a press secretary for Clinton's senatorial campaign, and served as communications director for the Democratic National Committee, where, according to a Politico biography, she "helped guide the DNC’s communications and media strategy for Howard Dean’s ‘50 State Strategy,’ re-branding the Democratic Party, the successful 2006 Congressional elections and DNC strategy for the 2008 presidential campaign."

It is not the first time Finney has written fundraising emails for the DSCC. She authored at least two others in August and September of last year, in which she accused Republicans of waging "an assault on our values" and attempting to "end Medicare," an oft-made Democratic charge that the fact-checking website PolitiFact named "Lie of the Year" in 2011.

The MSNBC media relations department was "not accepting calls at this time," according to an automated message.

An email request for comment was not immediately returned.
