MSNBC's Ruhle: 'No One Wins a War'

April 4, 2018

MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle claimed "no one wins a war" Wednesday during a brief aside to the camera while discussing the escalating trade conflict between the U.S. and China.

In response to fresh Trump administration tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese goods, China announced new tariffs Wednesday on a variety of U.S. goods, such as soybeans, cars and airplanes.

Ruhle was aggravated by a clip she had just played of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross saying earlier on CNBC "even shooting wars end with negotiations. Somebody signs a treaty with someone else. It has whatever terms it has. So it wouldn't be surprising at all if the net outcome of all this is some sort of a negotiation."

"Even shooting wars end in negotiations," Ruhle repeated in disgust. "Let's make something clear. In war, death and destruction ensue, and no one wins a war."

This is incorrect. Examples in the past century include the U.S. and its allies in World Wars I and II, the latter of which stopped the takeover of Europe by Naziism and fascism.
