Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was treated for prostate cancer this past summer, and the surgical operation was successful and led to a positive prognosis, according to a new report.
A source close to Romney told CNN that the former Massachusetts governor was treated successfully.
"Mitt Romney was treated over the summer for prostate cancer," the source said. "He was treated surgically by Dr. Thomas Ahlering at UC Irvine Hospital in California. His prognosis is good; he was successfully treated."

The source provided no further details, CNN's Jake Tapper and Maegan Vazquez reported.
Romney is considering a run for the Senate in Utah this year to replace retiring Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch, according to reports. Hatch announced last week that he will retire at the end of his current term, leaving as the longest-serving Republican senator in history. Hatch also said that he would support Romney if he decides to run.
Support for Romney launching a Senate bid drew criticism from Hillary Clinton supporters, who believe he is receiving preferential treatment from the media, compared to calls for Clinton to retire from electoral politics.
