Paisley, Underwood Perform Parody Song About Trump's Tweets at CMAs

November 8, 2017

During the 51st annual Country Music Awards on Wednesday, hosts Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley opened the show with a skit song about President Donald Trump's tweeting.

The song was a parody of Underwood’s 2005 hit "Before He Cheats," but instead could have been appropriately title, "Before He Tweets," referring to the president and his fondness for Twitter.

The duo began their tongue-and-cheek skit by talking about how they were given "guidelines with specific topics to avoid" in order to create an awards show that was a "politics free zone."

Paisley responded with a slew of short stunts with his guitar, parodying other songs with different politicians’ names.

"Are you kidding me?" Paisley jested. "That’s not fair, hold on, so we can’t even do, ‘Oh, way down yonder on the Scaramucci?’"

"Well, what about, ‘Well, she’s gone, gone, gone. Gone, gone, gone. Oh no, she wrote a memoir Hillary’s back,’" he sang.

"Creative, but no," Underwood responded.

After a few more propositions, Paisley went into a few guitar riffs of Underwood’s hit.

"Right now, he’s probably in his PJs, watching cable news, reaching for his cell phone," Paisley began, with a jokingly annoyed Underwood by his side.

"Right now, he’s probably asking Siri, ‘how in the hell do you spell Pocahontas?’ In the middle of the night, from the privacy, of a gold-plated White House toilet seat, he writes, ‘Liddle Bob Corker, NFL, and Covfefe,’" Paisley continued, before Underwood joined in with a small argument over the pronunciation of "covfefe."

The two finished off the song together in an on-off manner.

"And it’s fun to watch, yeah, that’s for sure, ‘til Little Rocket Man starts a nuclear war," Paisley sang.

"Then, maybe next time he’ll think before he tweets," the two finished off in unison.

"Yeah we can’t do that one," Underwood said.

"Definitely not," Paisley said.
