Huckabee Sanders: 'Heartless' for Pelosi and Dems to Fundraise Off DACA Decision

September 5, 2017

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders slammed House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) and other Democrats Tuesday as being "heartless" for fundraising based off the Trump administration's latest immigration announcement.

NBC reporter Kristen Welker asked Huckabee Sanders during a press conference about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program decision, and about President Donald Trump's past comments.

"The president vowed to treat Dreamers with ‘great heart,’" Welker said. "How is this move treating them with great heart?"

Huckabee Sanders replied that Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions are allowing "an orderly process to take place" before she called out Pelosi and other Democrats.

"There's a lot of people that I've seen attacking the president for not showing the level of compassion that they feel like he should," Huckabee Sanders said. "To me, the most heartless thing that I've seen all day today is that Democrats like Nancy Pelosi are using this decision today for fundraising while the president's trying to fix the situation."

"They are politicizing an issue instead of actually doing their job," Huckabee Sanders said. "If they would spend less time fundraising and more time focusing on solutions, we wouldn't even be in this problem in the first place."

Huckabee Sanders also called the United States a "nation of law and order" and said Trump was simply upholding the Constitution.

Sessions announced Tuesday that the DACA executive order, implemented under former President Barack Obama, will be rescinded over the course of six months, giving time for Congress to act and implement relevant legislation "should they so choose."
