Mika: I Want Trump to Succeed

One of President Donald Trump's fiercest critics in the media said Friday that she really wants him to succeed.

In the aftermath of another setback for President Donald Trump's agenda with the failure of Friday's Obamacare "skinny repeal" vote, "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski remarked that Trump may be imploding but it gave her no joy to say so.

"I think at this point it's safe to say the world might be closing in on President Trump just a little bit," she said. "I don't know, and I don't say that hopefully, because I want the president to succeed."

While Brzezinski, a Democrat, has sharp policy differences with Trump and the GOP, she appeared to be referring to his ability to succeed on behalf of the country as a whole.

Trump has feuded publicly with Brzezinski this year; he set off a firestorm in June when he tweeted a personal attack on her and fellow MSNBC host Joe Scarborough. Scarborough and Brzezinski previously had a friendship with Trump and provided cozy coverage during his run through the GOP primary.

Since then, however, she has questioned his mental fitness for office.

MSNBC analyst and former Ted Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler said he would go a step further and said the Trump presidency was done legislatively.

"I think this presidency is effectively over," he said.

"This president cannot change," Tyler added. "Nothing about his behavior tells me, since the beginning of this process, that he was going to change. And if he cannot change and he cannot become presidential and he cannot convince the majority of the American people to enact some legislative agenda that he wants passed, his presidency legislatively is effectively over."
