Ryan: No Government Shutdown Over Continuing Resolution

'As long as they hit the numbers, we're good to go'

Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) dismissed the idea of a potential government shutdown Tuesday on Bloomberg TV.

The House Budget Committee Chairman expressed confidence that the Senate would send the House a continuing resolution in the near future, stating as long as the Senate continuing resolution "hits the numbers, we're good to go":

PETER COOK: Betty thanks very much. I am joined by the House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, thanks for the time as always. You've got another plan out there, but I want to start first of all on the shutdown threat right now. As you see it, are you guys going to get rid of that shutdown threat this week?

PAUL RYAN: Yeah, I think that's right. We are waiting for send over the continuing resolution which we sent a couple weeks ago. We foresee they will do that, we will probably have that bill on the floor on Thursday.

PETER COOK: It's going to have changes in it, is that going to be acceptable to you and your colleagues?

PAUL RYAN: They are negotiating these changes to make sure that they are acceptable. The key for us is that they are not playing funny numbers, that they aren't trying to cook the books, or put some kind of a gimmick in this. As long as they hit the numbers, we're good to go. I think that they're going to do that. I have every reason to believe that is the case, and therefore I think we will probably have a bill on the floor on Thursday.

PETER COOK: So shutdown threat gone?

PAUL RYAN: Right.
