Whoopi Goldberg Refuses to Say Trump's Name on The View, Calls Him 'The New Guy'

May 9, 2017

Whoopi Goldberg refused to say President Trump's name aloud Tuesday on "The View," referring to him as "the new guy."

While interviewing former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Goldberg could not bring herself to utter the current White House occupant's name.

"Do you find it interesting that the relationship between China and the new guy, uh—" Goldberg said, trailing off.

"She won't say his name," co-host Joy Behar said, as the left-leaning crowd applauded appreciatively.

"No, I won't," Goldberg said.

She had trouble regaining her train of thought as she attempted to get at Trump's winning of approval to register 38 new Trump trademarks in China, leading to complaints over potential conflicts of interest.

"There's been a lot of conversations about, you know, getting your, what was it, his, uh, oh my God, see, the brain is gone," Goldberg said. "He was getting his—he was able to get his patents. The trademarks. And all of these things that came tumbling into the new guy's lap once he became president. Shouldn't he clear up that he's representing, as our president, that he's not representing his corporation but representing us and our needs?"

Rice said Trump should make that clear, adding the situation was unusual in that Trump went straight from being a businessman to the presidency.

"He made me love George Bush, I'll tell you that," Behar said.

Rice served in George W. Bush's cabinet and smiled at Behar's remark, joking she never thought she would hear the far-left commentator say those words.

"Hell just froze over," Goldberg said.
