MSNBC Doesn't Know When Trump Will Face Reelection

MSNBC's Katy Tur asked fellow network host Chris Matthews on Thursday if he thought President Donald Trump would face a primary challenger in 2018.

However, there is a problem with Tur's question: Trump is not up for reelection until 2020. The United States Constitution sets a president's term length at four years, and Trump was elected in 2016.

Tur presumably confused the 2020 presidential election with the 2018 midterm elections.

Tur's conversation with Matthews came shortly after the House of Representatives passed the Republican health care plan to replace Obamacare. After Tur read statements from groups who opposed the vote, she asked Matthews about Trump's political future.

"Is there any chance, and this is a question that might be a little too early to ask, is there any chance that Donald Trump will face a primary challenger in 2018 from the Republican side?" Tur asked.

"Well probably, because he's controversial," Matthews responded.
