Liberals on Twitter rejoiced when they believed that the Statue of Liberty was joining their "Day Without a Woman" strike when its lights went out on Tuesday night, only to find out the electrical outage was not an act of solidarity by the national monument.
Wednesday is both International Women's Day and the day of the "Day Without a Woman" strike, where participants do not go to work and avoid shopping.
The lights of Lady Liberty in New York Harbor went out on Tuesday night, causing many liberals on Twitter to jump to the conclusion that the incident was not a coincidence, Twitchy reports.
Wow! Lights are out at the #StatueOfLiberty! A #DayWithoutAWoman started early @womensmarch!! #RESIST ✊🏽❤

But it was a coincidence.
The National Park Service explained what happened on their own Twitter account, owing the electrical outage to repair work being done on a new emergency generator and recovery from Hurricane Sandy.
Some lights on the Statue were temporarily off tonight. Likely related to new emergency generator/Hurricane Sandy recovery project work.
