Things did not go according to plan for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) on Monday night, when she struggled getting her message across at a protest because her microphone was not working.
"Is the sound working? Sound working?" Pelosi repeatedly asked as she was trying to speak at a rally opposing Donald Trump's executive order temporarily halting citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States over terrorism concerns.
"I can hear you, can you hear us?" Pelosi asked the crowd.
She began her speech believing the microphone was on, saying how proud she was to be standing with so many people, primarily congressional Democrats, against Trump’s executive order on immigration.
Shortly afterward, Pelosi stopped her speech.
"It's not on?" she asked. "Is somebody going to deal with this?"
There was a long pause from the crowd
"Look at the moon. It's a new moon, alright. Can you hear me now?" Pelosi asked, not realizing she was quoting a famous television ad for a cell phone service.
She then began her speech again.
"Good evening, everyone," Pelosi said. "I'm very proud to stand with the members of the House Democratic Caucus, soon to be joined by the Senate Democrats as well, sharing views in a bipartisan way with many of our Republican colleagues who agree that what the president did undermines our values and is not in support of the oath of office that we take to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. Can't hear?"
She then asked the crowd, "Can you hear now? Does this work better? No. Staff? Staff people?"
Running out of options, Pelosi suggested that everyone break into song.
"Shall we sing 'This Land Is Your Land' again until they get the sound working?"
The crowd then awkwardly burst into song, attempting to sing in unison.
"Okay, we're good, we're good," Pelosi said, trying to get the crowd to stop.
"Thank you, Joe Crowley, for getting us through the sound here," the California Democrat said.
But the microphone did not turn on, and Democrats continued to speak.
Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.) pulled out a bullhorn, but ended up not using it, CNS News reported.
His solution was to just shout instead.
The event's audio issues did not go unnoticed by the president.
