Washington Free Beacon senior editor Bill Gertz appeared Friday on Fox News with Sean Hannity to discuss his new book, iWar: War and Peace in the Information Age, and the intelligence community's report on Russian hacks during the 2016 election.
The intelligence community concluded in the report that Russian President Vladimir Putin spearheaded an effort to undermine the American democratic system through information operations and cyber attacks during the presidential election. Gertz appeared on Hannity's show alongside Dr. Sebastian Gorka to discuss, in part, the findings of the report and the Obama administration's response to Russian aggression.
"Absolutely, nothing has been done. We are faced with what I call an information warfare assault. I think this latest report from the intelligence community confirms that," Gertz said. "This was not about politics; this was about undermining the democratic system in the United States."
Turning to Gertz's newly released book, Hannity asked, "What is the conclusion you come to? Because this is what the whole book is about."
"Well, the conclusion is we are facing an information war and we are being disarmed in this battle, in this war, and we need to develop new methods, new institutions, new capabilities," Gertz said. "We need clear thinking, we need clear strategy, and we need to counterattack."
When the discussion turned to President Obama's foreign policy, Gertz took aim at the president's attempted "Russian reset."
"In the very early part of the Obama administration, when they were doing the so-called Russia reset, intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies were prohibited from saying anything critical about Russia or Putin," Gertz said.
"That went on for years and years and years," Gertz continued. "One of the things that came out in the intelligence report earlier was this has been going on for more than ten years and nothing has been done about it."
