Rapper Kanye West did not vote in last week's election but told an audience Thursday night that if he did, he would have cast his ballot for President-elect Donald Trump.
West was performing in San Jose, California as part of his Saint Pablo Tour when he informed the crowd of his presidential endorsement.
"I told y'all I didn't vote right?" the 21-time Grammy winner asked the crowd. "But I didn't tell you. I guess I told you, but if I would have voted, I would have voted for Trump."
The audience did not appear enthralled with West's announcement, as boos of disapproval could be heard in the arena.

"They thought they had me just because I was black, or just because I'm a celebrity, " West told the stunned crowd. "But Trump is our president."

West also lavished praised on Trump's unconventional campaign, calling it "absolutely genius."
In August 2015, West took the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards and told the crowd that he was planning on running for president in 2020. Supporters of his campaign should not be deterred by his support for Trump, though. West assured the crowd that he still plans to run in 2020.

West's announcement may cause trouble at home as his wife, Kim Kardashian, supported Hillary Clinton in the November election.
The couple met Clinton during the presidential campaign and Kardashian expressed her support for the former Democratic nominee at the time.
