Emails reveal tension between senior Clinton advisers

Clinton campaign chair John Podesta took a swipe at Sid Blumenthal, a longtime Clinton ally, in newly hacked emails that show no love lost between the two longtime Democratic operatives.

Podesta accused Blumenthal of lacking self-awareness during a testy private email exchange published by the hacker website WikiLeaks.

Podesta, founder of the Clinton-aligned Center for American Progress, and his colleague Neera Tanden discussed providing cover for Clinton after it was revealed that Blumenthal may have provided her with intelligence reports.

"It always amazes me that people like Sid either completely lack self awareness or self respect," Podesta wrote in the 2015 exchange. "Maybe both. Will you promise to shoot me if I ever end up like that?"

Tanden also takes a shot at Blumenthal, writing, "Sidney sure is the gift that keeps giving!"

Both Podesta and Blumenthal have long served as top Clinton advisers and could play a prominent role in a Clinton White House.

The U.S. intelligence community accuses Russian hackers of leaking these and other private e-mails to Wikileaks in a bid to interfere with the U.S. election
