A mattress store in San Antonio, Texas is under fire after releasing a commercial Thursday on its Facebook page promoting the store’s upcoming 9/11 sale.
Miracle Mattress centered its commercial around the events of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, when two planes, flown by members of al Qaeda, slammed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City.
"What better way to remember 9/11 than with a twin tower sale. Right now you can get any size mattress for a twin price," a woman in the ad says.
"Full mattress?" a man asks.
"Twin price," the woman says.
"Queen mattress?" another man asks.
"Twin price," the woman says.
"King Mattress?" both men scream.
The woman tells them that the king mattress is also part of the twin mattress sale. She then throws her arms out excitedly, telling them there is a storewide sale all day and knocking both guys backwards into two towers of mattresses. She then yells and screams as the two stacks of mattresses fall down.
"Oh my God. We’ll never forget," the woman says at the end of the commercial.
The commercial sparked backlash on the store’s Facebook page and other social media platforms, with many people calling it "insensitive" and "disgusting."
Miracle Mattress took the video down from its Facebook page after all the backlash and released an apology on the page.
To all of those who have seen our 9/11 sale. We are very sorry we have offended you. Our intentions were not to hurt anyone at all. Our staff is full of military and some relatives have passed away due to 9/11. We are promoters of peace and love. We have given abundantly to our community here in San Antonio and wish to remain known as a company who respects and loves others. We hope you find it in your hearts to forgive us. Please accept our apology.
The woman in the commercial appears to be the marketing manager of Miracle Mattress.
