Washington Free Beacon's Bill McMorris appeared on Fox News' late night comedy talk show Red Eye.
During one of the segments host Tom Shillue discussed a story that in Emeryville, California the demand to raise the minimum wage to $15 has led for one pizza place raise the price to $30.
The law exempts businesses that have under 56 employees from raising the wage until 2018. The pizza place that Shillue discussed decided to raise employees pay to $25, close the doors for lunch, and has gotten rid of tips for the employees.
McMorris talked about how he interviewed a businessman out of Emeryville owned a suspender factory. Shillue said it seems like California legislatures would rather see businesses go out of business than give into the demand for higher wages.
"This guy managed to keep a business afloat for 40 years, despite the invention of belts. Despite Jimmy Carter, despite everything," McMorris said.
The business owner said that California's minimum wage law is going to put him out of business. The business owner currently sells close to $3 million a year in suspenders but with the new law he would have to double the wages of everyone who works in his factory and will put him out of business.
Most business owners in California are not onboard with the idea of raising the wage and will eventually put their small businesses out of business.
