Rocket fire out of the Gaza Strip into Israel resumed this week as militants supportive of the Islamic State terrorist group attacked the Jewish state, according to the Associated Press.
"Recent attacks have been claimed by Gaza militants who support the Islamic State group fighting in Iraq and Syria," the AP reported.
Israeli policy holds Hamas responsible for any aggression that comes out of Gaza. Sunni Islamic State fighters are in conflict with Shia Hamas, and are reported to have launched an attack on Israel in an attempt to put Hamas in the Israel Defense Force’s crosshairs.
"Those militants are in rivalry with Hamas and they say their rockets are in retaliation for a Hamas crackdown on their members," AP says.
There is an intricate internal conflict between Islamist extremist groups, as different factions’ conflicting ideologies spur bloody conflict.
The Guardian reported that Hamas recently killed Younis Hunnar, a militant Salafist leader in Gaza City.
