Staten Island Chuck had a much better Groundhog Day than his predecessor.
With an inch of Plexiglas protecting him from New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, the celebrated groundhog had a safe 2015.
Last Groundhog Day, the mayor dropped Chuck, who later died from internal bleeding injuries. With the mayor murdering a beloved state figure, the Staten Island Zoo decided not to give de Blasio another chance. Chuck was only handled by experts and was allowed to look for his shadow from inside a Plexiglas cage.
The mayor who killed a centuries-old tradition still has not been forgiven by some New Yorkers.
"Don’t touch him, whatever you do!" news anchor Rosanna Scotto pleaded with de Blasio.
Staten Island Chuck predicted spring would come early this year. With an 82 percent success rate in predicting the weather, that should be welcome news for New Yorkers.
