Rep. Cory Gardner (R., Colo.) released a new web ad on Thursday hitting Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Udall for breaking promises on energy.
The new video plays a portion of a Udall campaign ad in 2008, in which he argued for the need for increased oil and gas production in the United States.
"We’ve got to draw a line in the sand, that starting today, right now, America’s going to work toward energy independence," Udall said. A campaign spokesperson said at the time that Udall had a plan that "throws the kitchen sink at the energy crisis."
The Gardner campaign ad now argues that Udall "broke that promise," citing his votes against the Keystone XL pipeline and his support for a cap-and-trade system and EPA regulations.
"Udall consistently sided with Obama against increased energy production, raising prices, killing jobs," a narrator says. "The only job Sen. Udall fights for is his own."
"Sen. Udall tells Coloradans one thing when he’s in Colorado and then does the opposite when he’s in Washington," said Matt Connelly, a spokesperson for the Gardner campaign. "Coloradans are fed up with Sen. Udall’s broken promises and his disdain for our new energy economy."
