TipGate: NFL Star Leaves 20-Cent Tip

A 20 percent tip on the bill would have been about $12

September 10, 2014

An uproar started after it was revealed that Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy left a peewee $0.20 tip on a bill that was more than $60.

The controversy came to light after Philadelphia burger shop PYT posted a picture of the star player's receipt on Facebook, according to Fox 29.

A 20 percent tip on this bill would have been about 12 bucks. McCoy left the server 20 cents. The waiter admitted the service wasn't great, but do you ever leave a less than 1 percent tip?

The news station tracked down the snubbed waiter to get his side of the story.

"One guy ordered crab cake with nothing just a patty itself. When he got it, he complained that there was no bun, no veggies, no sauce. He gave our food runner a hard time about it and he went back and they were rude to him and the bartender as well," the server said.

McCoy and the Eagles did not respond to Fox 29's request for comment but the running back did say to the Philadelphia Daily News' Les Bowen "It’s bullshit, man."

Though McCoy did not elaborate, Bowen said that the back was "really ticked about service."

While Fox 29 reported that some waiters have taken to social media, the man McCoy stiffed said it was a one-time issue.

"I won't be taking care of him again," he said.
