MSNBC host Al Sharpton, during his customary opening rant against all things Republican on PoliticsNation, solely called out GOP members Monday for focusing on "raising cash" over the budget fight and potential government shutdown.
Yet the Reverend failed to mention that many prominent Democrats are doing the same, including Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) The Huffington Post reports:
The DNC sent out a fundraising email from Biden on Monday asking for a $3 donation. It said, "If you've been watching what's been happening here in Washington over the past couple of weeks, and you still think you need more reasons to support Democrats over Republicans, I'm not sure what to tell you. The choice is pretty clear."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) sent a fundraising email to his supporters titled, "The Tea Party parallel universe." It said, "This is the extremism that our grassroots network is tasked with fighting against. And the FEC deadline at the end of the month gives us another opportunity to redouble our grassroots efforts."
House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.) and Reps. Joe Kennedy (D., Mass.), Gene Green (D., Texas), Lois Capps (D., Calif.) and Charlie Rangel (D., N.Y.) are also listed as attending or hosting fundraisers in upcoming weeks.
Curiously, Sharpton did not profess him to be outraged at Democrats doing the same as their Republican colleagues:
SHARPTON: Republicans can't shut it down. It's the law of the land. So let's be clear about what's happening. Every year, Congress has to pass a budget to fund the government, to keep it running. But Republicans don't care about that. They're more focused on scoring political points and raising cash. Republican Senator Mike Lee is now actually fundraising off this fight, and Congressman Paul Ryan is using the shutdown to raise money with the RNC. It's outrageous. A shutdown is bad for America, but it's good for their bottom line?
Did he really think we wouldn't notice his blatant hypocrisy? As Sharpton is fond of saying: Nice try, but we got you.
