The GOP pulled even with the Democrats in election fundraising as donations to President Obama's campaign dropped steeply in April.
Obama's re-election Super Pac, Priorities USA Action, raised a mere $1.6 million in April, the group's smallest amount since its anemic $59,000 January haul. Priorities USA Action pulled in $3 million less than the Mitt Romney Super PAC, Restore Our Future, raised in April.
The Politico reports:
The Obama campaign, Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign committee raised a combined $54.6 million last month. Their Republican counterparts – the Romney campaign, Republican National Committee, National Republican Senatorial Committee and National Republican Congressional Committee – raised $51.25 million.
At each level of the 2012 race, the fundraising gap was narrow. The Obama campaign and DNC outraised Romney and the RNC by just $3.5 million – $43.6 million to $40.1 million. Democrats also won the Senate money contest, with the DSCC taking in $4.5 million to the NRSC’s $4.25 million.
Republicans won out in the House bracket, with the NRCC raising $6.9 million to the DCCC’s $6.5 million.
Meanwhile, the Obama campaign's fundraising declined steeply in April as many large donors hit the legal maximum.
Buzzfeed reports:
Obama’s campaign took in $25.7 million, after raising $43.6 million in conjunction with the Democratic National Committee. That represented a drop from the $35 million in receipts the campaign saw in March on $53 million raised by the joint fundraising effort.
