Rep. Steve Cohen (D., Tenn.) on Tuesday complained to Indian-born Google CEO Sundar Pichai that he cannot understand tech support workers when he calls them.
Cohen's complaint came during a congressional hearing where Pichai was testifying. Lawmakers grilled Pichai on a range of issues, including potential political bias on Google's platforms and the company's privacy practices. The Tennessee Democrat also talked about his inability to use all of Google's features properly.
"I use your apparatus often, or your search engine, and I don't understand all of the different ways that you can turn off the locations. There's so many different things," Cohen said. "Have you considered having an online school that people can go to with a Google rep that you can log in and ask questions?"
Cohen added that he does not want to experience the same issues as Comcast, "where you get put on hold for 30 minutes and then find somebody who you can't understand."
"Congressman, we are constantly looking for better ways to do it," Pichai said. "One of the ways is giving online tutorials, and we haven't specifically looked at an option like that, but I'm happy to take that feedback."
"I find it's a lot easier to talk to somebody and go, 'This is what I want,' because the other thing is frustrating," Cohen said. "But if you can look into that I think that it would help. Privacy is something I think many people, including myself, are interested in."
