The Clinton Foundation failed to reveal the identities of 1,100 foreign donors, violating the ethics agreement the foundation made with the Obama administration while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State.
CBS’s Major Garrett asked White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest last week whether Clinton’s actions during her time as Secretary of State met the White House’s memorandum of understanding.
Earnest said the Obama administration was proud of her service and that everything was done within accordance of the memorandum. Garrett asked again during Wednesday’s press briefing that given a new report that 1,100 donors were undisclosed if the Obama administration was still satisfied with Clinton’s compliance.
"Even last week, I was reluctant to talk about the specific compliance because the White House is not in the position to enforce that compliance," Earnest said.
Garrett said that the White House is in a place to render a judgment.
"That is the State Department’s responsibility to enforce and verify that compliance," Earnest said.
Earnest asked that questions about the memorandum in question be deferred to the Clinton Foundation or the State Department.
