Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) is hosting a "Nevertheless, She Persisted" telephone town hall on Wednesday to commemorate the one-year anniversary of her being formally silenced on the Senate floor.
Warren will field questions and discuss how she is "persisting for families in Massachusetts and across the country" during the 7:45 p.m. call, Mass Live reports.
The senator was silenced in 2017 for a speech opposing then-attorney general nominee Jeff Sessions when Senate Republicans voted she impugned Sessions' character.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) defended the decision, saying "Sen. Warren was giving a lengthy speech. She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted."
On the town hall RSVP form, which is posted on Warren's site, the moment is described as "McConnell throwing Elizabeth off the Senate floor."
Warren and her supporters have used the "nevertheless, she persisted" line as a rallying and fundraising cry. The senator has made vast sums of money selling merchandise featuring the phrase, and she has used the phrase frequently in speeches.
