A gunman opened fire Wednesday while Scalise and other Republican congressmen were playing baseball in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood. Police said five people were medically taken from the scene, including two Capitol Hill police officers and an aide to Rep. Roger Williams (R., Texas).
The shooter was shot and wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police.
No fatalities were reported.
The shooting led to increased security measures on Capitol Hill. Politico reported police have blocked off the main area surrounding the entrances to the House and Senate.
