Plan was 'rebuffed' by the White House

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and Gen. Martin Dempsey said Thursday they supported a rejected plan to arm Syrian rebels that was rejected by White House officials.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Central Intelligence Agency Director David H. Petraeus developed a plan to vet, train, and arm the Syrian resistance last summer, the New York Times reported earlier this week, but were “rebuffed” by White House officials when they presented the plan.
