Mother of Serviceman Booed for Asking Question About Khan at Pence Rally

August 1, 2016

A mother of an Air Force serviceman was booed at a rally while asking Donald Trump’s running mate Gov. Mike Pence (Ind.) a question concerning Trump’s recent attacks on Khizr Khan and his family.

"Time and time again, Trump has disrespected our nation’s armed forces and veterans," the mother said Monday in Reno, Nevada. "The disrespect for Mr. Khan and his family is just an example of that."

Khan, the father of a fallen American Muslim soldier, has been involved in a war of words with Trump over criticism the former levied against the Republican nominee at the Democratic National Convention. Critics, including prominent Republicans, have lambasted Trump for speaking out against the family of a slain soldier.

The crowd of Trump supporters then interrupted the audience member with boos, but she continued with her question.

"Will there ever be–ever be a point in time when you’re able to look at Trump in the eye and tell him enough is enough?" she asked.

Pence could be heard saying "it’s OK" to the crowd.

"You have a son in the military," she said. "How do you tolerate his disrespect?"

Someone in the crowd continued yelling and someone who appeared to be a security guard could be heard telling the individual to get away from the mother.

The mother then picked up her Trump-Pence campaign sign and showed the crowd a photo of her son.

"That’s alright," Pence said. "Folks, that’s what freedom looks like, and that’s what freedom sounds like. Ok?"

A few people in the audience clapped.

"It is," Pence repeated.

Pence began his response by thanking the mother for her son’s and family’s service to the United States. He then addressed the question.

"Having spent time with our nominee, I have never been around someone more devoted to the armed forces of this country, more devoted to the families of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coast guard, no one more devoted to the veterans in this country," Pence said.

"Donald Trump supports our soldiers and supports our veterans, like no other leader in my lifetime," he said.
