Morning Joe Panel: Clinton’s New Ad 'Too Terrible’ For Words

December 2, 2015

MSNBC’s Morning Joe Panel tore into Hillary Clinton’s latest campaign ad entitled "44 Boys is Too Many" Wednesday.

After the ad played, co-host Mika Brzezinski appeared dumbfounded.

"Alright," she said. "That was a new ad from the Hillary Clinton campaign."

"It’s really [...] too terrible to describe in the English language," said former John McCain adviser Steve Schmidt.

Host Joe Scarborough asked Schmidt if his problem was with the kids, to which Schmidt responded that his problem was not with the kids, but with the kids being used by a "cynical politician."

"I love little kids. I hate little kids being used by cynical politicians," he said.

"It’s cute and all," Brzezinski said in an attempt to lessen the criticism.

"No, it’s not," Schmidt said. Scarborough agreed.

"There's a table in a campaign headquarters with people sitting around it, watching it on TV saying, ‘Well, that's really good, let's put it out,'" Schmidt said.

"I've always thought that about her campaign," Brzezinski said.

Scarborough underscored the artificial nature of the ad.

"That reminds me of the politicians that will actually hire children. They don't have children, don't have a family," he said.

Brzezinski said that the advertisement was outdated, calling it a "1980's-style" ad. She said it would’ve been better had it featured "working women, hardworking women from every level of society" rather than children.

That way, it would relate to "this generation of women who have succeeded, [who] do work, have to work and now want a woman representing them," she said.

"I mean, that was 1972," she said, referring to the Equal Rights Amendment.

"And this is why Donald Trump is winning. Because people are sick of this crap," co-host Willie Geist said.

Scarborough agreed. "Indeed it is," he said.

"Okay. I think we all don’t like the ad," Brzezinski said.

Clinton has received criticism for seeming outdated, grandmotherly, and for being a relic of the past. She has also been accused of leveraging her gender and attacking her opponents with unsubstantiated claims of sexism.
