When the cameras were off and she was done "shilling" for then-candidate Donald Trump, former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said that she felt like she "need[ed] to take a shower," MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough claimed on Monday.
As Mediaite reports, the MSNBC power couple thought that Conway was just treating her time with the Trump campaign like her "summer vacation."
Conway's public statements, and their sometimes tenuous relationship with facts, were a subject of discussion on "Morning Joe" on Monday. The conversation prompted Brzezinski and Scarborough to recall her appearances on their program during the 2016 presidential campaign.
"This is a woman, by the way," said a dismissive Brzezinski, "who came on our show during the campaign and would shill for Trump in extensive fashion. And then she would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say, 'Blech. I need to take a shower.' Because she disliked her candidate so much."
Scarborough agreed, jumping in to claim that he did not think Conway took her time as campaign manager as a serious ideological commitment.
"She also said that this is just like my summer in Europe. This is just my vacation," he said. "I'm just doing it for the money. I'll be off this soon. I don't know that she ever said 'I'm doing this for the money,' but she said this is just my summer vacation, my summer in Europe, I'm gonna get through this."
Conway's disconnect from Trump grew more substantial after the release of the infamous recording of Trump and "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush making lewd comments about women.
"I thought it was very interesting after the 'Access Hollywood' tape came out, that's when she started referring to Donald Trump as 'my client,'" Scarborough recalled.
Conway currently serves as Trump's counselor in the White House.
