Franken: Clinton, Dems Need to 'Move on' From 2016

June 2, 2017

Sen. Al Franken (D., Minn.) said Thursday that it is time for Hillary Clinton and other Democrats to move on from their 2016 election loss to President Donald Trump.

Franken spoke with Yahoo News' Katie Couric about Clinton's recent public appearances, where she has blamed external factors, including former FBI Director James Comey and Russian meddling, for her electoral defeat, the Washington Times reported.

Couric mentioned that Clinton's former campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, tweeted Wednesday that she was "tired" of hearing Clinton blame others for her loss, adding that she and other Democrats need to move on and focus on the future.

Couric asked Franken if he agreed with Solis Doyle.

"Yep. Yeah, I mean, I love Hillary, I think she was very prepared to be president of the United States," Franken said. "I think she's the smartest, toughest, hardest working person I know, and I think she has a right to analyze what happened. But we do have to move on."

Franken went on to argue that Trump's policies negatively affect those who voted for him.
