Clinton Surrogate Says 'Nothing New Here' Four Times in Response to Foundation Stories

October 27, 2016

Rep. Joe Crowley (D., N.Y.) repeated the Clinton campaign's talking point that there is no new information from the flurry of recent stories about the Clinton Foundation.

CNN's Alisyn Camerota began by saying it appears "unseemly" that top Bill Clinton aide Doug Band amassed massive wealth for Clinton via paid speeches while being tasked with fundraising for the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.

Crowley started immediately with his defense.

"Well, I think there's nothing really new here, though," Crowley said.

Crowley repeatedly blamed Russian hackers for allegedly leaking the documents from Hillary Clinton campaign chair John Podesta's accent via WikiLeaks.

"In many respects, there's nothing really new being found," Crowley said.

When Camerota asked if it was okay to have non-profit and for-profit operations mixed in this manner, Crowley modified his talking point slightly.

"I think at the end of the day, there's no news here," Crowley said.

Crowley began talking about how it was not uncommon for a former president to become wealthy after their time in the White House.

"Outside of Ulysses S. Grant, who at the end wrote a memoir to pay his family's, to pay back bills, there's nothing really new here at all," Crowley said.

Camerota and Crowley then began talking about how Republicans in Congress would continue to investigate Clinton even if she is elected president.

"They're salivating, they can't wait," Crowley said. "I mean, look, as I said before, nothing new here. More information to delve into or look at."
