New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called the incident Monday morning near Times Square in Manhattan "an attempted terrorist attack," and said officials have identified the suspected bomber.
De Blasio gave a quick news conference alongside NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill and Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Nobody was apparently killed in the attack, but a few were injured, including the attempted bomber.
"Let's be clear, as New Yorkers, our lives revolve around the subways," de Blasio said. "When we hear of an attack on the subway it's incredibly unsettling and let's be also clear this was an attempted terrorist attack."
O'Neill said the injuries suffered by the victims were "minor."
Police have identified 27-year-old Akayed Ullah as the suspected bomber, CNN reports.
The New York Post tweeted a picture reportedly of the suspected bomber being taken into custody.
