Bolton: Withdrawal of U.S. Influence Means Disorder Around the World

Bolton: Declining U.S. influence 'a threat to our way of life here, ultimately'

Former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton warned Sunday, "The withdrawal of American influence really means more disorder around the world, and I think a threat to our way of life here, ultimately. And certainly to our friends in the regions affected."

Bolton denounced Obama's foreign policy, saying, "I think the theme of the president's foreign policy around the world, but particularly in the Middle East, has been the decline of American influence, the voluntary removal of American efforts to affect what's happening. And it's typified by what we see today in Iraq, Syria, as you mentioned, but really, across North Africa and the Middle East."

Bolton went on to predict a coming breakdown in the Middle East: "We're on the verge of the entire region descending into chaos, which will obviously affect us, affect our friends like Israel and the Arab monarchies of the peninsula, and potentially have an enormous impact on the world if oil and gas production are affected."

The former ambassador also pointed to similar troubles in other regions of the world, including Ukraine and the South China Sea.
