Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered remarks to the Conference of Presidents on why he will speak at a joint session of Congress. Netanyahu’s speech has come under scrutiny because of the upcoming Israeli election.
Netanyahu said one of his biggest concerns was a bad deal with Iran. The Iranian regime has openly called for the destruction of the state of Israel. He also expressed his concern with the current talks of a deal that would make Iran a nuclear power.
When Netanyahu mentioned the importance of speaking to Congress and how Congress has the ability to set and change the parameters of the Iran deal, his words were met with applause. Netanyahu reflected on a time when the Jewish people were not even allowed to speak on their own behalf and expressed about the grave danger that threatens Israel.
"It is my sacred duty as Prime Minister of Israel to make Israel’s case," Netanyahu said. "On March 3, I will fulfill that duty, representing all of the citizens of Israel before the houses of Congress. And I will make the best case for Israel that I can, knowing that our case is just. That our case is sound and that our case offers the best hope to resolve this issue peacefully."
