A White House reporter asked press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders if President Donald Trump believes in UFOs during Tuesday's briefing.
"I actually want to ask about UFOs," the reporter said to laughs.
His query wasn't out of nowhere; the New York Times reported Sunday on the existence of a Pentagon program to investigate the possible extraterrestrials, called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.
The Times was tipped off to the existence of the secret program which was funded at the insistence of then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) in 2007; Reid has long had a fascination with UFOs.
The program hasn't been funded since 2012, so the reporter asked Trump if he believed in the existence of UFOs and whether he would be interested in restoring money to the program.
"Somehow, that question hasn't come up in our back-and-forth over the last couple days, but I will check into that and be happy to circle back," Sanders said, smiling.
