Trump: I Fired Comey Because He 'Wasn't Doing a Good Job'

May 10, 2017

President Trump had a simple explanation on Wednesday for why he fired FBI Director James Comey a day earlier: He wasn't doing a good job.

In the Oval Office alongside former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Trump took questions about the surprising dismissal of Comey, who was leading an investigation into alleged collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia.

"He wasn't doing a good job. Very simply," Trump said. "He was not doing a good job."

The Trump administration said Comey's dismissal had to do with his mishandling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation, which had subsequently damaged the integrity of the FBI.
