Perhaps in an effort to reach out to his voter base, Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) called Hillary Clinton a "neocon" on Friday night's Hardball.
MSNBC host Chris Matthews had asked what Paul thought of Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) receiving two new fundraising bundlers and getting more media attention. Paul compared Rubio's stances to those of Clinton's.
Paul highlighted that Clinton had supported the war in Iraq, the war in Libya, and was supporting a no-fly zone over Syria. Matthews asked Paul if Clinton was a "hawk" when it came to foreign policy.
"I think Hillary Clinton is a neocon," Paul said.
Matthews was shocked with his answer. Paul defended his stance by saying that he thought that Clinton and Rubio are very similar on foreign policy. Matthews repeated Paul's statement back to him where Paul proceed to repeat the wars that Clinton had supported and that he was afraid of her.
"If Hillary Clinton is president we will be back at war with the Middle East," Paul said. "I fear Hillary Clinton."
Paul went on to say that there needs to be more diplomacy and used the Cold War as an example of diplomacy that worked. He called Clinton's and the other Republicans' support of a no-fly zone over Syria a sign of weakness that would cause more problems.
