Former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader said Friday that Hillary Clinton is going to win the Democratic nomination by "dictatorship."
The 82-year-old environmentalist told US News that Clinton is a "corporatist, militarist Democrat" when asked to name the positive contributions the former secretary of state has contributed to the 2016 election.
He hailed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I, Vt.), arguing that the self-described socialist Democrat would have defeated Clinton had every state conducted an open primary, which would have allowed independents to vote.
"She’s going to win by dictatorship. Twenty-five percent of superdelegates are cronies, mostly," Nader told US News. "They weren't elected. They were there in order to stop somebody like Bernie Sanders, who would win by the vote."
He said that while Sanders campaign was hurt by closed primaries and limited debates, his presidential bid "was viable" because of a consistent record and millions raised in small contributions.
"He almost won and he would’ve won," Nader said. "He would’ve defeated [Donald] Trump easily, much more easily than [Clinton] would’ve defeated him. He doesn’t produce gaffes. He’s very consistent and he’s scandal-free. What politician 35 years in office is scandal-free?"
Still, he refused to endorse Sanders, preferring instead if November’s ballot had a "none of the above" option.
The FBI’s year-long investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email serve during her time server continues to haunt the Democratic frontrunner bid for the presidency.
Nader said that it wouldn’t be impossible for Trump to clinch a win in the fall given Clinton’s "vulnerability to scandal."
"You never know when the shoe's going to drop on either of them," he said, referring to Hillary and former president Bill Clinton.
