MSNBC: 'Democrats Are Going to Have to Answer' for Obamacare Premium Spikes

October 25, 2016

MSNBC's Kasie Hunt said on Tuesday that Democrats are going to be in trouble for the coming spikes in Obamacare premiums.

Host Stephanie Ruhle was speaking with Hunt, who is covering Hillary Clinton's campaign, about the recent reports on how health care premiums under Obamacare are expected to skyrocket next year.

"'Nasty women' also have to provide their families with health care," Ruhle said. "Can you talk about these Obamacare headlines? With premiums set to go up double digits, this has got to be a problem for the Clinton campaign."

"It's a real problem both for the Clinton campaign and potentially for Democrats heading in to what's going to be the first year of a new administration, a new congress," Hunt said. "This is exactly what Republicans were warning about when they opposed this law, and both sides have been so dug in on trying to make changes to this law."

"Democrats have refused basically to reopen it because they think that Republicans would take an opportunity to make changes to the law to essentially gut it and completely get rid of it," Hunt continued.

Hunt then said the premium increases are having an effect on Americans using these insurance plans, who can make it an issue for Democrats going forward.

"The people that are paying the price are those who are on these plans that are going up, you know, 25 percent price increases every year and, quite frankly, I think Democrats are going to have to answer for some of that when it comes time to actually try and reckon with changing it," Hunt said. "Of course, the demands for changing it [are] going to come from the bottom up, from voters who are feeling kind of the pain of this."
