Majority Of Americans Reacted Very Positively to Trump's Address

The majority of the American public had a positive reaction to President Donald Trump's address to Congress. According to a CNN/ORC poll, 57 percent of those polled who watched the speech reacted very positively.

Another 21 percent of viewers had a "somewhat positive" reaction, while only 10 percent reacted very negatively to the speech.

After Trump's speech, more voters believed Trump's policies would have a positive impact. 69 percent of those polled after the address believed Trump's policies would move the country in the right direction. Prior to the address, only 58 percent held that same belief.

Trump also soothed some fears during his speech. Before the speech, 32 percent of those polled were not confident that Trump could carry out his presidential duties. Comparatively, only 19 percent believed the same following the speech.

In comparison, following their first addresses to Congress, President Barack Obama and President George W. Bush received 68 percent and 66 percent very positive reactions respectively.
