MSNBC and NBC News political correspondent Kasie Hunt said the Democrats' house was "on fire" after former interim Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile's revelations came to light earlier this week.
Brazile makes allegations in her upcoming book that the Democratic presidential primary was rigged in favor of Hillary Clinton during the lead up to the 2016 election.
Hunt was on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Friday discussing an interview she previously did with Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.), and began discussing the discord between Democratic Party leaders and Clinton's Democratic primary challenger, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.).
"We have dramatically understated so far this morning the depth of anger among Bernie Sanders supporters," Hunt said. "This was the thing they spent the most time and energy talking about. At the Harvard Review, after the election, they were still fighting with Hillary Clinton campaign officials about this. It is still driving how the party is evolving to this day."
"This divide is going to drive the next election cycle," Hunt said. "We talk so much on this show about all the problems Republicans are having with President Trump. The Democrats' house is a complete mess; it is in many ways on fire. And I think you're going to see that play out and really drive all of what is going to happen for them in 2020 and it may mean that they miss a chance to take on President Trump."
Many Democrats are concerned about the party's future due to conflicting loyalties between progressive Sanders supporters, and others who are more "establishment" and supported Hillary Clinton.
