John Podesta: Trump Proves Every Day He's 'Temperamentally Unfit to Be President'

May 22, 2017

John Podesta, the former chairman for Hillary Clinton's failed 2016 campaign, told Politico's Susan Glasser in an interview released Monday that Donald Trump is "unqualified" and "temperamentally unfit" to be president of the United States.

Glasser asked Podesta about the pushback Clinton's campaign has received for claiming that then-FBI Director James Comey played a significant role in Clinton's election loss. She went on to cite how many commentators believe the campaign did not devote enough resources to Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, two traditionally blue states in presidential elections that Trump won in November.

"We can go at this state by state; I think we threw everything we could at Pennsylvania, and ultimately, came up short," Podesta said. "There's been a lot of analysis, particularly in the exurban, rural areas that white votes—you know, non-college-educated white votes swinging to Trump."

Podesta then discussed how the campaign could have done more in Wisconsin.

"My own personal view is we probably should have done more in Wisconsin; we didn't advertise there until the very end. But, you know, at the end of the day, we lost Pennsylvania anyway, and we had thrown everything we could at Pennsylvania," he said.

Podesta said the Clinton campaign's goal was to convince American voters that Trump was "temperamentally unfit and unqualified" to be president, arguing the campaign was able to convince 60 percent of American voters.

"I think they just decided, you know, they wanted, you know, radical change to the system, and they were willing to take a flier on the president," Podesta said. "I think a lot of those people probably regret that at this point, because the—every day, he proves that he is temperamentally unfit to be president of the United States."
