Graham on Spending Bill: 'Democrats Cleaned Our Clock'

May 2, 2017

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) argued Tuesday during an interview with CNN's Kate Bolduan that Democrats "cleaned [Republicans'] clock" in the newest government spending bill.

After being asked if a government shutdown is ever a good outcome, Graham said it is not, before shifting his focus to the recently proposed spending bill.

"I don't know if I'm going to vote for the bill they're going to present to the Senate here soon," he said.

Bolduan pushed the South Carolina Republican to explain his position.

"I think the Democrats cleaned our clock. There are things in this bill that I just don't understand. This was not winning from the Republican point of view," Graham said. "The bottom line is, no, I don't want to shut the government down, but I don't want to continue to fund Obamacare either, and that's what we do here."
