Ellison: Trump's 'Behavior Is Obstruction'

Rep. Keith Ellison (D., Minn.) said Sunday that President Donald Trump's "behavior is obstruction" during an appearance on ABC's "This Week."

After former FBI Director James Comey's testimony on Thursday that Trump hoped he would back off an investigation into ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, some Democrats are arguing that Trump could be impeached for obstruction.

Ellison, the vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee, said it was an open question whether Trump could be prosecuted, but he said Trump's conduct "fits the behavior of obstruction."

"Can we talk about obstruction?" Ellison asked. "Obstruction, basically, is whether you corruptly influence, obstruct or impede the administration of justice. You tell a chief law enforcement officer 'Back off my friend,' or 'I hope you back off my friend,' and then when he doesn't, you fire him, clearly that fits the behavior of obstruction."

"The question of whether or not you can prosecute the president is open, but the behavior is obstruction," he added.
