Several congressional Democrats either stayed seated or sat down quickly as President Donald Trump entered the House chamber to give his first address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday evening.
Many Democrats could be spotted in their seats as others stood and applauded before Trump was set to speak, including Republican members of Congress.
It is customary for the audience to remain standing as a sign of respect to the president before the formal speech begins.
However, several members of Congress can be seen seated at the 18-second mark in the above video.
Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) said earlier Tuesday that she was not going to attend the speech at all, calling it a form of boycotting the president.
She was the only lawmaker planning to skip the speech altogether as of Tuesday morning, the Hill reported.
